I am considering giving my child up for adoption

Adoption counselling for biological parents

The parents have the right to decide on the adoption of their child. Parents considering giving their child up for adoption are provided with help when considering their life situation and different options. The child’s paternity is important information for the child, and it can be investigated if necessary. Both parents’ consent is required for adoption.

Following the child’s birth, the parents have a period of reflection of at least eight weeks before they can sign the consent. During the period of reflection, the child can be cared for in short-term family care, if necessary. The biological parents can express their own preferences with regard to the adoptive family, and open adoption, meaning maintaining contact after the adoption, is discussed with them. Adoption counselling is always free of charge.
