The purpose of adoption is to secure a permanent family for a child who cannot grow up in their own birth family and ensure their balanced development and well-being. What is most important is to take care of the child’s interests and to find them a permanent and safe home.
Adoption always begins with adoption counselling, which promotes the interests of the child and provides help and support for all of the parties involved in the adoption: the child, the biological parents and the adoption applicants. You can get adoption counselling from a Save the Children Finland regional office or the social services of your wellbeing services county.
