Preventing Child Sexual Abuse: Support for Adolescents Sexually Attracted to Children – publication webinar

We are pleased to invite you to join the publication webinar of “Preventing Child Sexual Abuse: Support for Adolescents Sexually Attracted to Children – An Introductory Guidebook” on Thursday September 8th at 9AM – 10:15AM (CEST, UTC+2). This publication webinar is a joint effort of Save the Children Denmark and Save the Children Finland.

The guidebook is an introductory tool for professionals in contact with adolescents on how to prevent child sexual abuse by helping adolescents who are sexually attracted to children. The guidebook is a product of a research collaboration on child sexual abuse prevention between MSc, PhD-student Mikkel Rask Pedersen and Save the Children Denmark and Finland. The webinar will present the key contents of the guidebook and bring together professionals, researchers, and officials to discuss the topic.

Sexual interest in children is not only a controversial and taboo subject for many, but also complex and challenging to define. When we attempt to understand adolescents with sexual attractions to children, we may find that this only adds to this difficulty and complexity. Despite common belief, many people who experience sexual attractions to children manage to live lives without abuse. Yet, when adolescents start to experience these sexual thoughts, the fear of committing abuse or the fear of social rejection for just having the thoughts make many avoid seeking help. Therefore, these adolescents will end up facing this struggle alone. However, if we find ways to better inform adolescents sexually attracted to children on the help that is available, we may find that we can help them while also protecting children from child sexual abuse.

The webinar is open for all professionals working with children and young people, and for professionals working with persons with a sexual interest in children. Also, police, other authorities, and decision-makers are warmly welcome to join the webinar.

The webinar language is English, there will be no interpretation.

Please sign up below by Monday 5th of September.
