HOTLINE

Save the Children Hotline

Since 2002 Save the Children has maintained an internet hotline service, where internet users can report their encounters of illegal material on the internet.

According to Finnish law, material with content violating sexual morality involving children, violence or animals, as well as footage of brutal violence or material designed to agitate against a certain group of people or race is considered illegal. Save the Children Hotline concentrates on working against the production and distribution of footage portraying the sexual abuse of children.

So called "child pornography" is evidence in visual form of the sexual abuse of a child that has taken place in reality, a serious crime in which the victim is a child. The demand for such imagery increases the need to produce new footage portraying the sexual exploitation of children. This leads to more and more sexual crimes committed against children, filming and photographing these crimes, and spreading the material on the internet.

  • The hotline service makes it possible to anonymously report websites containing footage of child abuse or other illegal material.
  • Illegal material on the internet, illegal activity or other content that refers to illegal behaviour can be reported directly to the police.
  • Inappropriate content on web services can be reported to the administrator of the service in question.
