Advocacy and influencing work
Save the Children Finland is an active and influential player in Finnish society where we bring up important issues on children's welfare for debate and promote the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in local and countrywide as well as international forums. Our aim is to achieve favourable and lasting changes in children’s lives worldwide.
Save the Children Finland co-operates with other organisations, authorities and decision-makers, takes part in work groups and committees, issues statements and expresses its opinions, raises questions relating to children and their welfare for general discussion, and provides training for local people involved in responsible work for these issues.
The advocacy work of Save the Children Finland and its partners aims at promoting changes that serve to increase awareness of the content and obligations of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- the assessment of impacts on children gains due attention in legislation
- resources for preventive action in child protection are increased
- the status and resources of child protection are strengthened in society
- the child-centred approach in foster placements gains ground
- knowledge of intercountry adoptions and adopted children's special needs grows
- international co-operation and training on child protection issues increases
- violence against children is revealed and made visible, and actions to prevent and suppress it are adequate
Save the Children Finland forms part of the Save the Children Europe Group, which has an advocacy office in Brussels. Through this Group, we are members of the Euronet network (European Children's Network) and the CONCORD co-operation body (European Confederation of Relief and Development NGOs).
